A high-end boutique-style building, this community features 11 residential and two commercial units. It’s located in the Shaughnessy neighborhood, a highly desirable area of Vancouver.
A new development with upgraded features, the building attracted a lot of attention. While it was a notable strata with safety measures in place, it was also a prime target for thieves. There were several break-ins that resulted in material losses and damage.
Associa British Columbia, Inc. began managing the property in 2020. Its manager, Darko, was instrumental in establishing contacts with the Vancouver police, connecting with security experts to audit the premises, and establishing an action plan to reduce the security risk. He developed a security upgrade project, setting a cost budget, timeline, and coordinating a special levy amount from residents to pay for the security upgrade. The strata council followed Darko’s recommendations, and the special levy was unanimously endorsed during the annual strata general meeting. The strata partnered with several security firms and work began on upgrading the safety and security systems for the building.
Darko monitored the quality of work, compliance to timelines, and budget of the project to deliver a successful outcome. The security upgrade project has dramatically enhanced the building security while reducing the risk of unsolicited entry. Today, Darko is well respected for his knowledge and pragmatic approach to solving problems and is a key member of the strata council.
